Comrades, Friends, Brothers and Sisters!
May 1st, which is the day of unity, solidarity and struggle of the working class, has a more unique meaning, unlike the previous ones, with Covid-19 and the pandemic announced worldwide this year. The epidemic experienced revealed with all its nudity that capitalism with the ambition for more profit drives planet and humanity to extinction at full speed. Of course, capitalist barbarism is the primary responsible for this epidemic, by destroying potable water resources, wildlife, forests and glaciers as it releases more and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
The rights to shelter, health, education and nourishment, which are the most basic human rights of the peoples and should be offered free by the state has been stripped to bones by capitalism that markets it with neo-liberal policies and systematically destroys them through “austerity”, “health restructuring” packages is also in a hurry to turn the epidemic with the same audacity into an opportunity. With the pretext of post-quarantine economic stagnation and the expectation of shrinkage, it signals the security policies and usurping the vested rights.
We did not create the current human and economic crises and we are not the ones to pay the bill. We are not obliged to capitalism that commodifies human beings, for the benefit of a handful of exploiters, disregarding the lives of millions and impoverishing each passing day. The barbarian face of has once again been shown by the systems they call ‘civilised world and civilisation’, leaving the elderly and retired people, whom they define as ‘unnecessary’, to death, and forcing workers and laborers to work without any protection measures.
Peoples from France to Chile, from Kurdistan to Catalonia, from Ecuador to Lebanon are fighting on the streets against exploitative outdated systems. Today, revolutionaries, patriots and communists have more duties than ever to crown these revolts with revolutions and carry them to socialism. We must develop organised struggle in every field we are in without being a prisoner of conditions and create unique tools of it. The working class and the oppressed peoples must stand against the principle of ‘rights aren’t given but taken’ against all compromising understandings that the grace, charity and starvation of capitalist barbarism. We must unite in the struggle for revolution for our future, our rights and for a humane world.
The pandemic experienced showed to all oppressed that the only alternative for the liberation of humanity and the planet is socialism and ultimately communism. Let’s reveal the power of the working class that creates and changes with the enthusiasm of May 1 in all our living spaces!
